This brochure provides all the information you need to know about enrolling in the AUR20220 Certificate II in Automotive Air Conditioning Technology.

Course Details

Overview of Course

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform a range of tasks relating to servicing and repairing air conditioning components and systems of cars and heavy vehicles in an automotive service and repair business.

The completion of this qualification enables an individual to apply for an AAC02 - Refrigerant handling licence - qualified persons (Automotive air conditioning licence). Users are advised that the scope of the licence will be contingent on unit of competency selection. Trainee licences also apply to those handling refrigerants while undertaking training. These licences are governed by the Australian Refrigeration Council, which should be contacted for further information.

Who Should Apply For This Course and Why?

This course is targeted at students who are:
. seeking to pursue a career in the automotive industry 
. seeking a pathway to higher level qualifications
. seeking to formalise existing skills and knowledge.
Completing this course may provide you with employment or learning opportunities. Potential employment options are in a range of automotive roles. Further education pathways may include a range of Certificate IV qualifications from the AUR Training Package such as the AUR40216 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis.

Training and Assessment Information

This course is delivered through structured self-study and in the workplace.

You will participate in a total of 20 hours of training and assessment per week by distance, in the workplace and in your own time for 14 weeks (1 term of 10 weeks and 1 term of 4 weeks). Holiday breaks are 3 weeks in total and the timing of these breaks will be advised when you start your course.

You will attend 2 x 2 hour face-to-screen online training sessions a week as well as complete structured workplace learning activities in your workplace using your Self-Study Guide. Practical assessments will also be undertaken in your workplace.

You will also read through and complete Assessment Task 1: Knowledge Questions in your own time before completing the assessment. 

In addition to the above, you will also need to complete approximately 2 hours of additional, unsupervised study per week including general reading and research for assessments.

At the beginning of each unit, your trainer and assessor will outline the assessment tasks that must be completed.
You will be provided with a Student Guide relevant to each unit in your course.

Course Progress and Attendance

Satisfactory course progress and attendance is very important. Please read the Student Handbook carefully for more information. You will also be provided with further information about course progress and attendance requirements at your orientation. 

Student Support

You may not have studied for a while, may have English as a second language or need additional assistance with literacy or numeracy. 

We will identify any additional support needs you may have at the time of application and enrolment and may prepare a Student Support Plan for you based on those needs.

There are only certain circumstances in which your enrolment can be deferred, suspended or cancelled. Please read the Student Handbook carefully for more information.

Resource Requirements

You are required to bring your own laptop with Office 365 (or similar program) to all classes. These costs are not included in your course fees. Specifications for laptops and associated costs are included below.

You can apply for recognition of existing skills, knowledge, and experience (credit transfer or recognition of prior learning) as per the information included in our Student Handbook, which is available at www.antts.com.au.

If you are granted course credit, this will affect your course fees as well as the duration of your course. We will advise you in writing of changes to fees or course duration as a result of the credit.

What Are The Entry Requirements?

Academy of the Northern Territory Tech Skills has the following entry requirements:

You must:

. currently be employed in an automotive industry role and have access to air-conditioning equipment
. participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs; and
. have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills as tested through a language, literacy and numeracy assessment. Students will need to achieve ACSF level 3 for reading, writing, numeracy and oral communication to enter the course.

How Much Does It Cost?

The costs for this course are as follows:

Course fees do not include laptops or software – see information above. Please note that you will also be required to provide a National Police Certificate and some workplaces may require certain immunisations. These will be at your own cost. You can read more about this in the Student Handbook, and we encourage you to do so, especially if you have any concerns around these requirements.

A detailed payment plan and payment arrangements, including information on refunds, are provided in the Offer Letter and Student Agreement. You must pay all your course fees and on time. Non-payment of fees may result in cancellation of enrolment.

How Can I Apply?

To apply for this course, you are required to complete an enrolment form and submit all required supporting evidence including:
. proof of your employment in an automotive industry role.
We will then contact you to conduct a course entry interview and LLN assessment.

Where To From Here?

If your application is successful, we will send you an Offer Letter and Student Agreement. You should make sure you read through this document carefully to make sure you are happy with all of the terms and conditions. If you are, then simply sign the document and send it back to us.

Once we receive this, we will email you to confirm your enrolment and issue an invoice for the first payment.

The first day of each course will include orientation and induction. Orientation will include information about accessing our support services and methods for achieving success throughout the course, including course progress requirements.
